A Look Before the Season

with 3 comments

Yesterday, before work, I saw this guy out our kitchen window. I scrambled into the bedroom to grab the camera and, when I went back to the kitchen, he was still there. I needed to hurry the shot because he was trying to decide whether or not he should be watching me through the window or running from the neighbor’s beagle. A few seconds later, he was gone. Life in the suburbs!

  1. Great picture. I LOVE that! We probably have an abundance of deer out here in our heavily wooded area around our house, but as of yet (a little over a year), haven’t seen any.

We have a couple of rabbits that love our back yard at night and Tom has a “pet” big fat spider on a giant web behind our bathroom window who comes out at night.

    It’s great fun!

  2. Deer are becoming a problem and a nuisance here. We have, now, two or three generations of deer who’ve not really lived in forests, but in woodlots owned by the University. They wander around neighborhoods and feed on backyard gardens. They’re wary but not as afraid of people as their country-side cousins. Deer management in most of Michigan is accomplished through a hunting season. There’s no hunting allowed in suburbs. Around here, deer herd management is accomplished through car-deer accidents. Not good.

Even with what I’ve just said, my Michigan-born instincts came to the fore when I saw this buck in the backyard. Just substitute the Cyber Shot for the shotgun.
