In Private

with 3 comments

I’m still thinking about “practicing in public.”

I don’t want to make too much of this idea. What we do in public is only a portion of the whole. What we do in private is also important, maybe foundational.

In private is where intimacy occurs. In private is where promises are made. In private is where forgiveness is confirmed, where learning occurs, mistakes are corrected, decisions are made, courage is fostered, faces are set, spirits are strengthened and hope takes root.

  1. But when we “practice” in public the part we say we embrace it will change who we are in private.

Although you can never discount quality actors….

    Have a great Thanksgiving.

  2. You make an interesting point.

I always think that the things I do in private will (or should) make me a better person in public. But maybe it’s the other way around.

I heard a quote that was attributed to Shakespeare which went, “If we cannot be men, then let us be actors.” The idea is that if we’re not people we’re supposed to be, then acting like how we should be will bring us closer to that goal. This, of course, cannot be accomplished by our selves alone.

  3. Shades of ” ’till we have faces” What was that verse about “putting on Christ” (I kept trying till He told me I wasn’t funny and I should get someone to tell me what the Scripture really meant)
