About Me

I’m Ray Fleming. I live and work near Lansing, Michigan. I am married with three children.

Contact me at: rjjfleming at Gmail dot com.

I blog about:

  • Faith
  • Writing
  • Work
  • Life

Sometimes all of those things will appear in a single post.

Most times, though, I’ll cover only one of these topics in a post.

FAITH:

I am a Christian. I make no apologies here. Though, at the same time, I don’t want to be the type of Christian that offends people by their mere existence. Believing gives meaning to my life. I’m not one to argue with people who don’t believe what I believe. If you have an honest question, though, ask me.

WRITING:

I’ve dreamed of writing since I was eight years old and first read a book that I didn’t like. “I could do better,” I thought to myself. I’ve been engaged in that quest since then, now almost 40 years later. Even though I write for my job, it’s not the writing of my ‘dream.’

This blog is not ‘dream’ writing either. It is, however, practice. It’s where I apply myself to think like a writer. It’s an online journal in it’s truest sense. I sometimes ignore grammar rules to get the idea down. I sometimes abandon ideas halfway through. I sometimes take creative risks that don’t work.

But when things DO work…

WORK:

My policy has been not to blog about my workplace. But, the idea of work is something that both intrigues me and repels me. I’ll try to work this out on the blog from time-to-time.

LIFE:

Every day life is most times boring. At least, this is how it appears on the surface. Every day life can be chock full of meaning and excitement. Every now and again, I will examine that aspect of life and tell you what I’ve discovered (or recovered, as the case might be.)

I came across your blog after Googling the phrase “necessary other” — am re-reading The Cloister Walk after many years. I enjoy your posts and will return!

(BTW, looks like you might be a Wisconsin fan? I’m 45 minutes from Chapel Hill but have the Badgers picked for the Final Four.)
